Senior Scene visits the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton and the topic is Adaptive Technology for the Sight and Hearing Impaired. Janet LaBreck of the MA Comm for the Blind talks with Mike Festa & Bryan Charlson. Senior Scene is produced by Martina Jackson of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services a department of the Commonwealth under the leadership of Dr. JudyAnn Bigbee. Production facilities were provided by New-TV.

“Massachusetts Immigrants by the Numbers: Demographic Characteristics and Economic Footprint” is a discussion between Dr. Westy Egmont and Dr. Paul Watanabe about a study commissioned by the Immigrant Learning Center in Malden, MA.
The study looks across the contributions that immigrants make in all their roles as members of the Massachusetts community. It is groundbreaking research that provides basic and new data about Massachusetts immigrants including pioneering compilations of data about immigrants as tax payers and consumers. This one report provides a comprehensive picture of immigrants’ characteristics and their contributions as well as challenges to their effective integration into the economic and social life of the state. Public Science, Senior Scene and more

We have some new programming on the server! A new Senior Scene, a PSA from the Dept. of Public Health and Public Science.  More information below.

Science for the Public is a grassroots nonprofit organization, launched in 2009. Their mission is to improve understanding of and appreciation for science in the adult community.  Science for the Public will partner with WGBH/PBS Forum Network starting in late March, 2010.  As soon as the Partnership is in effect, Public Science programs will be accessible on the Forum Network (under science forums).

What Parents Need

On May 15, 2009, International Day of Families, Parents Forum hosted a discussion on “What parents need to succeed.”  The panel, led by Bonny Carroll, a long-time parenting educator in Somerville, includes Richard Harding, Director of the Men of Color Health Initiative in Cambridge, Bob Wojcik, President of Children of Incarcerated Parents, Selvin Chambers, Executive Director of Elizabeth Peabody House in Somerville and Kim Hunt, President of Massachusetts PTA.

The panel was organized by Eve Sullivan, Parents Forum founder, to mark the 15th annual International Day of Families, so designated by the United Nations since the International Year of the Family in 1994.

This 28-minute video is available to all community cable stations in Massachusetts via MassAccess (www.MassAccess.gov). Parents Forum welcomes your feedback at info@parentsforum.org and your participation in online discussion groups at the program website www.parentsforum.org.
